Victorian home / Building restoration.

range from simple porch restoration to whole house renovations. The firm
also performs work on Barns,
Commercial Buildings, Train Stations and other
Older Properties. Other services provided by the firm include old home
consulting and Architectural / Historic Photography.

Mission Statement
The
mission of Renaissance Restorations is to provide professional workmanship on
all
projects, using skill sets used by the old masters of the trades as well
as modern day methods. The
firm prides itself
on an in-depth understanding of old home construction methods and
techniques.
working with craftsmen who worked on older homes.
Years ago a client made the comment
old and new carpentry styles and methods is like comparing a mechanic who
specializes in Model T Fords vs. a mechanic
trained to work on today's computerized hi tech automobiles. To be able to
work on an old car, one must have understanding
of how old cars are built, and the skills to fix old problems. The same
philosophy can be applied when working on old buildings.
"Would
You Hire a Modern Mechanic to Work on Your 1930 Cord ?"
Hence the term
"Old House Mechanic"....
Renaissance Restorations is an Old House Mechanic...
Renaissance
Restorations ONLY
works on older
homes and buildings, and has the understanding
of old building construction and the "quirks" in such construction.
Many times the firm has been hired to "undo"
damage and improper repairs done to older buildings by those unfamiliar
with old construction methods.

Building Code
& Code Compliance
When most older homes were constructed, building code was non-existent.
Building code
was developed over the years (and continues to change) to insure buildings meet
structural and design rules
and provide a level of safety. Renaissance Restorations has an
understanding of modern building codes and
when working on a restoration project, applies the latest building code to a
project. Modern materials such as
steel lally columns vs. timber columns to support a building, moisture/insect
resistant lumber is used to replace
non compliant lumber. Structural issues are addressed and corrected where
applicable.
All the work done by Renaissance Restorations is to current building
code, and in most cases,
exceeds
the minimum requirements for building code. On many projects, work is done to "bring up to code" and to insure
safety / fire / structural regulations are met.

Estimates
Renaissance Restorations does
charge a fee for estimates and proposals. This fee is based on the
location,
size of the project, and other factors. In the event a proposal is
accepted, this fee is applied towards the cost of the
project.
